The ORSEM Committee's Official Statement on the Postponement of the Freshmen Orientation Seminar 2009

Date: May 26, 2009

To: The Loyola Schools Community

Subject: Effects of H1N1 Virus on the Freshmen Orientation Seminar

Greetings!

We are all aware of the current worldwide viral pandemic – Influenza A (H1N1) virus that has claimed the lives of many. With this in mind, the Vice President of the Loyola Schools has released a memo declaring a Moratorium on Large Gatherings (500 and more students).

As the Freshmen Orientation Seminar (ORSEM) qualifies as a large gathering with over 2000 freshmen and around 800 volunteers, we regret to inform you that the ORSEM originally scheduled on June 10, 11 & 13, 2009 will be postponed in compliance with the said memorandum. We would like to stress that the ORSEM this year will only be postponed and NOT CANCELLED.

With regards to the new ORSEM dates, we will inform you of them as soon as we get the approval of the administration. To ensure the credibility of any further information or announcement, please wait for official statements from only the Loyola Schools administration or from us, the ORSEM Committee.

We hope that you view this predicament in a positive light, as the safety of the Loyola community is our primary concern. We would like you to know that we are making the necessary adjustments to provide our freshmen with not only the same, but rather a far more memorable ORSEM as we are challenged further with the current situation.

Rest assured that the H1N1 virus will not hinder or weaken our resolve in giving our freshmen the warmest and grandest welcoming experience as they start their college life in our beloved home, the Ateneo.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam!

Sincerely,

Justin See                                                        Krizanne Ty

ORSEM Head 2009                                        ORSEM Deputy 2009
